This blog came as a result of reading the book The Power Broker: Robert Moses and the Rise and Fall of New York by Robert Caro. While reading, I discovered that I had an interest in community planning specifically in transit but in a way that would be considered antithetical to how Robert Moses approached transit as characterized by Caro. I started dreaming of what would have been the reality of American Public Transit if Moses had been curtailed in his road building efforts. Instead of letting these dreams evaporate like so many others have, I decided to start doing some research.
There are already great blogs out there on what what transit could look like in specific areas of the country, even in my own home of Ohio. This blog would be dedicated to what a large scale plan would look like for the Midwest (Ohio to Nebraska). I will also drill down on specific topics that are essential to transit planning like housing and other community planning efforts.
I will also clarify that I am not trained in city planning. I graduated Purdue University with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and I have had a myriad of jobs that have given me a lot of life experience but not a lot of exposure to the grander themes of community planning. I welcome discussion and feedback from fellow transit enthusiasts. I believe that only through discussion will these dreams become reality.
